Foreigners snub ‘right to buy’ housing offer

According to data released by the Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment's Department of Land Registration & Land Use Statistics only 299 non-Vietnamese nationals had bought homes in the country as of April 10, 2012. Overpriced properties in Hanoi continue to be snubbed by foreigners Only three non-Vietnamese have bought homes in Vietnam since the end of 2011. Of the 299 non-Vietnamese nationals – the vast majority of whom are Vietnamese by ethnicity – 252 chose HCM City as an ideal location. Can Tho ranked second with 12 houses having been sold. Some other provinces like Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Haiphong, and Dong Thap, each has sold from between just one to six houses. Hanoi fared miserably as a top choice among foreign and Vietnamese overseas property buyers. Despite real estate prices falling, only four properties were sold to non-Vietnamese buyers – three of whom were Vietnamese Overseas, with only one foreigner of Czech nationality buying an apartment. All of them preferred the suburbs of Me Linh and Gia Lam District. According to the department, among these 299 people, the majority were Vietnamese Overseas people who had settled abroad and had foreign nationality. The number of non-Vietnamese foreigners was a miniscule minority. An official admitted that due to the cumbersome procedures it was undoubtedly the case that a lot more non-Vietnamese nationals in effect owned property, often via intermediaries such as Vietnamese relatives. Foreigners have proved reluctant to buy property due to their lack of land use right certification for home ownership, with current legislation forcing potential buyers to only buy apartments that are anecdotally regarded as overvalued, poorly located, badly designed and suffering from cheap construction. Misty and romantic Tam Dao

Located 90 kilometres from Hanoi, Tam Dao tourist area in Tam Dao Town, Vinh Phuc Province, is an ideal getaway for tourists to escape the crazy, scorching heat. In summer, people rush to Tam Dao which is considered the Dalat of the North with its fresh cool air, mist and romantic scenery. The old stone church in Tam Dao Town One weekend, we decided to go to Tam Dao when Hanoi was filled with rain. As I had not come to Tam Dao during the cooler weather I was very excited. I imagined Tam Dao at that time very quiet and deserted. I even thought I'd write a play about a love story set in Tam Dao among the romantic, misty surroundings. We reached Tam Dao with the sunset upon us. Tam Dao appeared vaguely in the vaporous mist and golden light reflecting over the wet road. It was not too cold, so we all felt the fresh air flowing into our ribs as we walked fast to look for a guest house. At night, it got colder and Tam Dao was blanked in tranquility and fog. The silence was sometimes broken by singing from karaoke rooms. Tam Dao perhaps has three specialties that tourists should not miss - eating chayote buds, gambling for fun and singing karaoke. There is some architecture worthy of a look such as an old stone church, Ba Chua Thuong Ngan Temple or Tam Dao TV Tower. In the dark, the old church stands imposingly. In front of the church, some vendors sell grilled corn and eggs, bringing some warmth to the night. In the early morning, it was like spring in Tam Dao with golden beams and warm weather. Like Sapa, the higher tourists trek, the more beautiful Tam Dao is. Nestled right at the foot of Thien Thi Mountain after its 200 stone steps, Ba Chua Thuong Ngan Temple is apparently a sacred place luring many pilgrims daily, especially during festivals to pray for love and bearing children. Bac Waterfall is another must in Tam Dao. Flowing down from the mountain peak, the fall looks like a silver carpet studded with green moss. Cat Ba in all its glory

It was well worth the rather rough and tortuous journey to reach our destination and once we reached Cat Ba Island, right on cue the sunset arrived in all its glory. A sunset view on Lan Ha Bay The small town looks beautiful, pristine and poetic, lying gently around a high mountain looking onto the sea. Cat Ba is the name of the biggest island in the Cat Ba archipelago including 366 islands grouped in Lan Ha Bay in Haiphong City's Cat Hai District. Cat Ba Island, covering 140 square kilometers, is known for its ideal climate, stunning beaches and biodiversity. Cat Ba National Park was recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2003. The highlight of Cat Ba is its sand dunes scattered amidst mountains, stunning beaches with clear, blue water, endless green of the forests and the limestone walls of the islands. The bizarre rock formations are sculpted by millenniums of erosion by water. The island also has coral reefs, sandy beaches, freshwater wetland areas, mangrove forests and willow swamps. Streams winding deeply in forests always murmur, creating symphonies and caves running through mountains always attract travelers' curiosity. Cat Ba National Park is another amazing sight to behold as it is home to 300 species of fauna and flora. The white-head langurs that live on Cat Ba are one of Vietnam's most endangered primates. The park, which takes up more than half of the island, is endowed with a diverse ecosystem and many types of habitats. After discovering the wildlife, visitors can cool off on the beach and play in the waves. The most popular beach is Cat Co beach which draws a crowd on holidays and weekends. For nature lovers, a visit to Trung Trang Cave with its mysterious stalactites is a must. Hung Son Cave, which used to contain a hospital during the revolutionary wars, and Lan Ha Bay are other attractions that tourists should not miss. Cruise boats are also available to explore from the sea and for those who love to hike, Ngu Lam Mountain at a height of 225 meters has a watchtower which has a stunning vantage point to take in a spectacular panoramic view of the island. Fake goods permeate Vietnamese market

Rampant counterfeit and fake goods at local markets harm consumers and damage brand names. Fake items difficult to distinguish According to recent surveys by the Vietnamese High Quality Goods Enterprise Association, more than 60% of products purchased in local markets are counterfeit. According to Mrs. Tam, owner of a cosmetic shop at Hoa Hung market, in HCM City, she has received a large number of sales pitches from dealers in such products. "Fake products are very hard to discern from the real thing. The producers put a lot of care into the packaging so that they look similar, but the prices are only one third of the real thing. Many vendors are tempted to take the offers, but there are repercussions. Customers, once they find out they have bought a fake product, will tell their friends to stay away from your shop." Another shop owner at Hoang Hoa Tham Market in HCM City, Mrs. Minh, also admitted that fake products are almost indiscernible to real ones. It is not difficult to find popular counterfeit products, such as Vy Hao detergent (a counterfeit of My Hao), Vi Mo washing powder (O Mo), or Todacao Cosmetic (Thorakao). There is virtually no product that has escaped this phenomenon. Aihao cosmetics claims to have lost 70% of its profits due to counterfeit products. According to Nguyen Hu Phuoc, Director of Thanh Nga Product Trading Company, which owns the Aihao brand, the company has tried to prevent the activity by informing police and other legal measures, but they have been ineffective. By now the fake Aihao products are only making up 1% on the market. The reason is not that the company has found out an effective way to fight them but Aihao has lost its brand image and is no longer popular. Phuoc said that counterfeit products come mainly from small operations that are unlicensed. But, he added, there are also a few registered companies producing counterfeit goods, taking advantage at times when actual name brand manufacturers are not selling. A representative from Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Branch said that the agency seized hundreds of thousands of faked items in 2011. According to Nguyen Viet Hong, General Director of Vina CHG Corporation, a company specialising in providing anti-counterfeit consultation, in the last year they received 20 requests for phony stamps for name brand products. "Many local businesses claim that even they are unable to tell fake products from real ones, as counterfeiters have become more sophisticated. Even the stamps are more well-done," he said Hue Tours Hue Tour Festival Hue Hue Da Nang url=http://www.huetourist.vn/index.php/262/154/Da-Nang-Hoi-An]Da Nang Hoi An Hoi An Hue Du Lich Hue Du Lich Hoi An Du Lich Da Nang Du Lich Sapa Du Lich Da Lat Du Lich Phu Quoc Du Lich Lao Du Lich Cambodia Du Lich Thai Lan Du Lich Singapore Du Lich Malaysia Du Lich Trung Quoc
